The UK Festival Awards and Conference 2009

November 3, 2009 in News, Promo | Leave a reply

The UK Festival Awards are the annual Oscars of the contemporary music festival industry and remain the only such body dedicated to recognising and congratulating the colossal human effort that goes into producing the UK’s world-leading music festival scene.

For one day and night only, the UK’s world-leading festival industry – the jewel in the live sector’s crown – unites under one roof to congratulate itself, socialise, network, share information and let its hair down after all its hard work over the past year.

Following the success of last year, the 2009 edition of the UK Festival Awards and Conference will bring together up to 1000 delegates comprising the largest and most senior group of UK and European music festival industry professionals ever assembled under one roof, to share insights and information, network, do business and have a great time. Click here to see who attends this event.

This year’s conference will once again take place during the day of the UK Festival Awards, however this year sees it taken to a different level with a tenfold increase in production investment and a move to the O2’s Vue Cinema (affording a significantly greater delegate capacity).

Thursday 19th November, Vue Cinema the o2, Greenwich, London, se10 0dx

9:30am – 5:00pm UK Festival Conference 2009. Vue Cinema, O2 Dome
5:30pm – 8:00pm VIP Dinner. Gaucho Restaurant, O2 Dome
8:00pm – 11:30pm UK Festival Awards 2009. Indigo2, O2 Dome

General Midi – Operation Overdrive

July 29, 2009 in News | Leave a reply

Foreign Beggars’ Orifice Vulgatron provides the vocals on ‘Four Million Ways’ and it’s rockin’ electro at its best.

And if you think the album will be loads more of the same, prepare yourself for a load of collaborations; and some from the outside lane to say the least.

The next track, ‘Absinthe’ features Sean Gill (of The Passengerz) and there’s no hint of drunkenness (although a big nod to Gary Numan’s old synth collection) whilst we love the chorus line, “nobody came to my party, but I don’t mind’ (it’s a bit catchy this one).

And on the subject of leftfield, Leigh De Vries brings “her monotone vocal style and natural barotone” to ‘Back For More’ that also takes us back in time to somewhere between The Human League and Throbbing Gristle; Ms. De Vries has been known to hang out with the Satanic Sluts Extreme! And sticking with naughty girls, Dominique Woolf (ex-Devils Gun) is in the fast lane at night on ‘Misbehave’ but is it a bit too Kylie to be dirty?

New York singer-songwriter Von Doom and Jim Davies (former live guitarist for The Prodigy, axe man for UK rock band Pitchshifter and DJ Hyper sidekick) all join in of ‘Poker Face’ that again, just misses it; too 80s?

But on the subject of The Prodigy, fans of the GM standard electro breaks will not be disappointed with the bangin’ tracks ‘Audio Assault’, ‘KickBox’, ‘Out Of Control’, ‘Milton’ and ‘When I Rock’.

Apart from ‘Four Million Ways’, the best of the collabs is LA’s Whiskey Pete, aided by siren, who MCs the instructions “get it down girl, report to the dancefloor”; binge drinkers break out to this one as its a BIG tune of a happy hour BOGOF double standard.

It’s been a few years since the General Midi Midi Style album broke through and since then, he’s been DJing all over the globe and you know when you hear a tracks like ‘KickBox’ and ‘When I Rock’ that he’s been road testing these tunes live in the club and fine tuned in the studio prior to them passing the dancefloor MOT.

And when General Midi is in overdrive, there’s not many better; Faster Polyphony! Kill! Kill!

Sven goes back to ’89 at Amnesia

July 29, 2009 in News | One comment

(Ibiza, Spain) – Cocoon main man Sven Väth will play his first planned ‘classics set’ at Amnesia in Ibiza on Friday 28th August, as a special celebration of two decades of club culture on the Balearic island.

Sven Väth is nothing if not a busy man. He’s the longtime boss of Cocoon Records, the label that’s made backroom techno the soundtrack one of the sexiest, trendiest scenes going, and as such he’s smashing it regularly at his label’s regular Ibiza parties. There he’s the host of new-school talents like Villalobos, Luciano and friends, but now he’s taking time to look back to Ibiza’s rave beginnings… and as per usual, he’s not doing it alone.

No, Uncle Sven’s got Underworld playing on the White Island for the first time in 10 years, as they unveil all their big hits, plus big acid house hitters Josh Wink and Mr C both guest star in the DJ booth too. And with C-Rock from Motorcitysoul on early doors too, this is looking like one 6pm-6am bash that you don’t want to miss. Viva Acid House!
